The twelfth of our Peace Poles

Pole 12 of 100 Peace Poles to be planted in Schools around Australia

With approximately 200,000 Peace Poles placed around the world, Dominic College located in Glenorchy Tasmania, were gifted their very own from the Rotary Club of Glenorchy in 2019. This coincided with the 2019 Year 6 excursion to Canberra, where students and staff from Dominic College rang the Canberra Rotary Peace Bell. The Peace Pole holds the message, ‘May Peace Prevail on Earth’ and it is written in four languages. Dominic College chose that this message is written in English, palawa kani, Japanese and Hindi, celebrating their school community. The Peace Pole is placed near the College’s state, national, and Aboriginal flags – which are powerful symbols of the school’s identity. It is also placed alongside a special plaque and rose bush, commemorating the terrible loss of life at the Port Arthur Massacre in 1996. Each year Dominic College will continue to focus on spreading peace throughout their community and hold an annual Peace Pole Ceremony and Blessing.
