We celebrated the digging of the first ‘sod’ for the on-site construction of the Canberra Rotary World Peace Bell at Nara Peace Park, Canberra Australia at 11:00am on 16 October 2017.
The pavilion for our bell is well under construction at steel works in Canberra. The bell is at the Australian War Memorial. Like all well planned, pre-fabricated buildings, once put on-site, erection will be fast and simple.
Our ‘turning of the first sod’ event marked the culmination of over 12 months fund-raising and planning by the Rotary Club of Canberra Burley Griffin.
The ‘sod’ was turned by the architect Fred Kasparek and President Ross Brown (RCCBG).
This informal gathering was also be attended by coordinator Michael Rabey, web designer Christopher Gray and a few committee members of the Rotary Club of Burley Griffin. Many supporters dropped in for a chat and were included in photographs and videos.
